Places to be around Nagaland
Japfu Peak
It is set amidst the verdant locales in the north-east Indian state of Nagaland. At an elevation of 3048 meters from the main sea level, the hill retreat is overshadowed by thick bamboo bushes that appear like a lawn. It is a great treat for the tourists and a must see for all.
Kohima
It is the amazing and beautiful capital of the state and also the land of the Angami Naga Tribe which also showcases the richness and the typical architectural handicrafts. Many people also visit it for the epic history and as you can also visit the World War II Cemetery.
Shangnyu Village
It is an 8 ft high and 12 ft wide wooden monument stands in this village and is believed that heavenly angels constructed it. The village is ruled by Angh- the hereditary chief; there are other memorial stones in front of the Angh's palace.
Dimapur
It is probably the transportational hub and the largest city of Nagaland. Dimapur is quite famous for a various of things and some of it are the Rangapahar Reserve Forest, the Diezephe Craft Village and mediaeval ruins of Kachari Kingdom.
Intanki Wildlife Sanctuary
If you are absolutely in an adventurous mood and then you quest is just 37 km from Dimapur. Intanki Wildlife Sanctuary is well-known forest reserves in Nagaland, housing baboons, elephants, wild buffaloes, barking deer, flying squirrels, tigers, wild dogs, sloth bears and hornbills, etc.
Changtongya
It is definitely a prominent tourist attraction of Nagaland, attracting more than just holiday lovers. Changtongya occupies a prominent place. The place is known for being a safe reservoir for birds as there are bounded by the no-hunting zone. The town is an ideal destination for bird watchers.
Dzukou
A treasure trove of flora and fauna, Dzukou is also lovingly called the Valley of Flowers. The wondrous natural rhapsodies of the hill retreat present a captivating locale, especially when during the monsoon. No wonder, the months of June to September is the best time to visit Dzukou Valley.
Best time to visit Nagaland
Nagaland consists of mountains and rivers and its monsoons are pretty heavy causing road blockades due to landslides. The summers are cooler than the rest of India because of the high altitude and this season is ideal for visiting the forests and the mountains of Nagaland. Winter is the preferable season since temperatures are low to moderate and touring the cities during this time is an absolute breeze.
HOW TO REACH
The state has only one airport, and railway station, both in Dimapur but it does have a good network of roads. Perhaps, the best way to approach here would to either take a direct flight to Dimapur or reach Guwahati by train and then take an overnight bus. See below for more details related to transportation.
